The Grove and Farmers Market

The Grove is one of the best outdoor shopping centers in LA. It’s been a favorite of mine since I first visited it many years ago as a tourist. Yes, it is a very touristy place so it can get a little chaotic during peak tourist season, which is almost all year in LA, but its street-grid layout makes you feel like you’re walking in an old-fashioned small town, not in a shopping center.

Right next to the Grove is the historic LA Farmers Market, with some 100 shops selling all kinds of things, from meats and baked goods to fresh produce, candies, nuts, cheese, you name it.  And you can also get a quick bite to eat in one of its many food stalls.

The Grove is a great place to shop, catch a movie, eat and walk around leisurely. It’s a festive place. Whether it’s a television show being taped or some celebrity going on a shopping spree, there’s always something interesting going on at the Grove.

I was there with visiting friends yesterday and, as always, there was something going on. People were lining on the street for over a block to get a frozen banana and their picture taken in front of a small booth. That turned out to be a promotional stunt for Arrested Development, the sitcom formerly from FOX, now making a come back on Netflix. Fans were excited and my friends were amused!

The Grove is a lot of fun and a great place to spend time with friends and family. Wear a hat and put on some sunscreen, though, ’cause you’ll spend a lot of time in the sun!
